"I THINK THE PURPOSE OF LIFE IS TO BE USEFUL, TO BE RESPONSIBLE, TO BE COMPASSIONATE. IT IS, ABOVE ALL, TO MATTER—TO COUNT, TO STAND FOR SOMETHING, TO HAVE MADE SOME DIFFERENCE THAT YOU LIVED AT ALL." — LEO ROSTEN, AUTHOR
> SELFISHNESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS
In spite of how benevolent our company might sound, the truth is we are actually quite selfish. That is, we spend an inordinate amount of time on ourselves (individually and company-wise) making sure we are fulfilled and at our best—in touch with our strengths and areas for improvement. Not unlike the Biblical analogy, until "ones cup runneth over," one isn’t in the best capacity to be giving anything away.
Because one of our corporate values is contribution, each of us shares a passion and commitment to contribute. Accordingly, we use our various talents and innovative thinking—as well as financial resources—to contribute. Because our resources are limited, we are constantly looking for better ways to leverage our resources to make the biggest impact. Following are a few of our more innovative ways:
Design Makes a Difference — MOOv, our marketing agency, offers a 20% discount (our profit margin) to all non-profits who engage our firm. Our experience with providing services for "free" is that it not only limits the number of organizations we can choose to work with, but it also de-values the level of work commitment, both from the agency and client sides. When something is "free" its hard to demand quality and accountability, and those, the work is likely to suck and in the end—be much more expensive than "free."
Digital Random Acts of Kindness — Each year, we develop or makeover the Website of a small business that we feel represents great potential, yet has unrealized representation on the Internet. The process involves us short-listing 10 small businesses we have heard about or encountered throughout the year, then inviting them to participate in a reverse RFP process, where participants will pitch us on why they should be chosen. The winner will receive a branding, online, and Web development package worth $100,000. If you would like to nominate such a small business, click here.
